Goodreads Summary:
The magic and suspense of Graceling meet the political intrigue and unrest of Game of Thrones in this riveting fantasy debut.

Your greatest enemy isn't what you fight, but what you fear.

Elizabeth Grey is one of the king's best witch hunters, devoted to rooting out witchcraft and doling out justice. But when she's accused of being a witch herself, Elizabeth is arrested and sentenced to burn at the stake.

Salvation comes from a man she thought was her enemy. Nicholas Perevil, the most powerful and dangerous wizard in the kingdom, offers her a deal: he will save her from execution if she can break the deadly curse that's been laid upon him.

But Nicholas and his followers know nothing of Elizabeth's witch hunting past--if they find out, the stake will be the least of her worries. And as she's thrust into the magical world of witches, ghosts, pirates, and one all-too-handsome healer, Elizabeth is forced to redefine her ideas of right and wrong, of friends and enemies, and of love and hate.

Virginia Boecker weaves a riveting tale of magic, betrayal, and sacrifice in this unforgettable fantasy debut.

Review:
This book, oh this book. Let me tell you, this was one of the best books that i read in a long time. This book takes you in and doesn't let you go. This is Virginia Boecker fantasy debut novel. Its about Elizabeth Grey who is one of the King's best witch hunters. But one evening she is caught with some herbs that witches use and she is trown into prison. There she is rescued by a powerfull wizard  aka Nicholas Perevil who takes her with him. She discovers that she is part of a prophecy and that she has to save Nicholas who is under a curse.

Elizabeth as a character is so different from your typical young adult protagonist, she doesn't immediatly fall in love with the first boy she meets or every other boy. Which i like, because in a lot of other young adult books were they try to introduce the love intrest the protagonist mostly instantly loves him. Elizabeth isn't like that, she is strong, beautifull and good. She lost her parents to the black plague which was started by a wizard. There for she hates magic and  because of her childhood friend Caleb she has become a witch hunter.

Caleb wasn't a big part of the book, but he made a great influence on her and the story. John her love intrest also makes a great influence on the story, because hir mother and sister were burnt at the stake because of witch hunter he has created a great hate for them, and when he finds out that Elizabeth is on of them the story is taking a turn. You don't know if the love will blossum between these two characters. Fifer is also very interesting. In the beginning she is a bit of a mean person, she doesn't trust anyone and for sure doesn't trust or like Elizabeth. But when the try to figure out the prophecy toghter on night and they get attackt by guards, they sort of bond.. Fifer totally changes as a character and is really great to see.
But the biggest character is Blackwell, the head of the witch hunters and the uncle of the King. He is the one that took care of Elizabeth when she was young and made her the person that she is today, but he is also the person that threw her into prison and would have burnt her at the stake if it wasn't for Nicholas. There is so much you discover in this book about him, that i cant tell you guys because it will ruin the book for you ;)

The plot is good and hasn't been done before which makes it interesting. I had never really read a book about witches of magic other than ToG and Harry potter. But those stories are so different. The writing is also really good, as soon as you finished a chapter you want to read the next one. Virginia takes you in and doesn't let go untill you have finished the compleet book. Because to whole prophecy is writting down for you and is brought back troughout the story so you see the connections. You think with the book, you want to know the trued.

I would definitely recommend this book to other readers who enjoy fantasy books about witches and magic. Now i have to wait untill July of this year to read the next book. I cant wait!! 5 Great Stars for this book!

Love, Hedi
